As market sector leader for transportation, Tom will applies his strong project management perspective to UMA's work in roads, rail, airports, and transit projects. His initial focus is to to help develop UMA's transit, program management, aviation and P3 (public-private partnerships) business.
Tom brings the project management perspective to work on the management team, with the ability to think like the client and the disciplined habit of treating the client's money as his own.
His knowledge and influence within UMA were responsible for the creation of the Greater Toronto Airport Groundside Association (GTAGA), the stand-alone joint venture partnership between UMA and DMJM Harris, an AECOM OpCo. As lead engineer, GTAGA is responsible for master planning, design, engineering and construction review for all groundside facilities for multi-billion dollar redevelopment of Toronto's Lester B. Pearson international airport.
Tom joined UMA's Halifax office in 1978, moving to Toronto in 1980. In addition to leading management services, he is vice president of the Ontario and Eastern Canada region.

Timothy Smith, P.Geo. Eng.L., began his 2006/2007 term on October 14 at the Annual Conference and AGM in Victoria. A member of Council for three terms (2001/2002, 2002/2003 and 2005/2006) and with extensive APEGBC experience through several committees, boards, and task forces, Tim's service to the Association has brought him to a place where he hopes to effect positive, strategic change.
Winner of the APEGBC Professional Service Award in 2004 and a former director of the Canadian Council of Professional Geoscientists, Tim is familiar with issues facing both the geoscience and engineering professions.
Strengthening the protection of the public and the environment will be key areas of focus during his presidency. Tim recently shared his priorities with Innovation for his upcoming year as president.

Jim is UMA's President and Chief Executive Officer. In this role, all our market sectors and regional officers report to him. His corporate responsibilities include serving as the primary liaison with UMA's parent company, AECOM, and chairing UMA's Executive and Leadership committees.
He previously served as the Regional Vice President for our operations in northern Alberta. Since joining UMA in 1973, Jim has gained a wide range of experience in land development and community infrastructure in addition to his management roles. Ken brings over 25 years of experience in designing retrofits, new installations and software for building automation systems, as well as extensive knowledge in commercial, institutional and industrial energy audits.
From 1981 to 1997, Ken was the Manager of Controls Services at the University of Toronto where he used his expertise for the design and maintenance of control systems and in the project management for a 3.5 million sq. ft. building automation system expansion. Ken was also involved in the re-conception, design, and implementation of an HVAC upgrade to the University of Toronto Rare Books Library, accomplishing improved space conditions and producing significant energy cost savings.
Ken is a graduate of the University of Windsor (Mechanical Engineering).
