Vijay Sondhi, Chief Financial Officer & Chief Operating Officer, joined Xenon in December 2004. Before joining Xenon, Mr. Sondhi spent 16 years in the high technology sector in Europe and the United States.

Dr. Mark Murray has led Protiva since its inception in the summer of 2000. Dr. Murray has over 25 years of experience in both the R&D and business development facets of the biotechnology industry.
He has held senior management positions at ZymoGenetics and Xcyte Therapies prior to joining Protiva. Since entering the biotechnology industry he has successfully completed numerous and varied partnering deals, directed successful product development programs, been responsible for strategic planning programs, raised financing and executed extensive business development initiatives.
During his R&D career, Dr. Murray worked extensively on three programs that resulted in FDA approved drugs, including the first growth factor protein approved for human use, a program he led for several years.
Dr. Murray obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Oregon Health Sciences University and was a Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell post-doctoral research fellow for three years at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr. Abrams is the founding CEO of AnorMED, Inc and led that company as President and CEO for ten years. AnorMED discovered and developed Mozobil, a drug for improving stem cell mobilization for patients undergoing stem cell transplantation. Mozobil was approved by FDA in 2008 and AnorMED was acquired by Genzyme Corp. in 2006 for $580M. Prior to AnorMED, Abrams was Manager Biomedical Research for Johnson Matthey, plc where he led the spin-off of the biomedical research group to form AnorMED.

Xenon was launched in 1998 by Dr. Pimstone, a South African-born internal medicine specialist who trained with the department of medical genetics at the University of B.C, and chief scientific officer Michael Hayden, a professor of genetics at UBC. They describe Xenon as a clinical genetics-based drug discovery company.
"We believe Xenon has identified more disease-relevant genes, 17 to date, than any other company in the world, and we have advanced a number of those discoveries into drug programs," Pimstone said.
Simon Pimstone is a founder, Director, and President & Chief Executive Officer at Xenon Pharmaceuticals Inc. Dr. Pimstone received his MD from the University of Cape Town.
He is an internal medicine specialist (FRCPC) with an interest in cardiovascular disease. Prior to his specialization, he trained as a clinical research fellow with the Department of Medical Genetics at the University of British Columbia and obtained his PhD through the University of Amsterdam in cardiovascular genetics.
Dr. Pimstone has served as a consultant physician at the St. Paul's Hospital Lipid Clinic in Vancouver, as a Director of the Providence Healthcare Research Trust, a Director of the AllerGEN National Centre of Excellence, an Advisory Member of the SFU Biotech MBA program, and he is a Director of BIOTECanada. Dr. Pimstone is a member of the Young Presidents' Organization.
In 2005, he received the Business in Vancouver Top 40 under 40 Award and the Globe & Mail's Canadian Top 40 Under 40 Award in 2004. Dr. Pimstone is the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications and is also a regular guest speaker at international scientific meetings and healthcare conferences.

Rajender Kamboj, Executive Vice President, Drug Discovery joined Xenon in April 2002. Dr. Kamboj was previously the Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of Allelix Biopharmaceuticals Inc. (part of NPS Pharmaceuticals, Inc) where he had primary responsibility for managing their drug discovery programs.
In his 12 years with Allelix/NPS, Dr. Kamboj managed research teams covering all aspects of drug discovery and development, from initial research to clinical trials.
Under his leadership at Allelix/NPS, Dr. Kamboj also established, implemented and managed significant corporate partnerships with Eli Lilly, Hoechst Marion Roussel (now Aventis) and Janssen Pharmaceutica (part of Johnson & Johnson).
He led the development of nine drug discovery programs in neurological, metabolic and other therapeutic areas. During his tenure, four drug development programs were independently advanced into clinical studies by Allelix/NPS and three programs partnered with Eli Lilly, Aventis and Johnson & Johnson were advanced into late-stage pre-clinical development. Michael Hayden has served as our Chief Scientific Officer since March 1999 and has been a member of Xenon's Board of Directors since November 1996.
He is currently a full professor of Medical Genetics at the University of British Columbia, as well as Director of the Center for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics (CMMT) in Vancouver; the CMMT is a gene research center under UBC's Faculty of Medicine.
Author of over 400 peer-reviewed publications and invited submissions, Dr. Hayden focuses his research primarily on genetic diseases, including genetics of lipoprotein disorders, Huntington's disease and predictive medicine. In association with his colleagues, Dr. Hayden developed the proposal which led to the award of the Canadian Centers of Excellence on the genetic basis of disease.
This effort has been furthered by his involvement in the Canadian Genetic Diseases Network; Dr. Hayden has served as the Network's Scientific Director since its inception in 1990.

Mr. Granger received a B.A. (honors) from the faculty of Business Administration, Simon Fraser University, in 1981 and has been a Certified Management Accountant since 1986. From 1983 to date he has been employed in a variety of senior accounting and financial management positions for public enterprises. Paul Hughes has extensive international experience and expertise within the alternative/renewable energy sector gained within North America, Europe and Asia.
Mr. Hughes has co-founded energy companies in Europe and North America, has led an energy company from start-up through to IPO and has successfully raised private equity within multiple energy technology companies.
Mr. Hughes has also held senior business development and corporate finance roles in the UK and US utilities. Mr. Hughes holds a BSc (Hons) in Business from Aston University, UK, an Executive MBA from Ashridge, UK and is a Chartered Accountant.

Dr. Berlin developed postdoctoral R&D work in biorefinery of lignocellulosics at the Forest Products Biotechnology Group, Faculty of Forestry, University of British Columbia (Vancouver, BC, Canada). He has more than 15 years of R&D experience in this area including expertise in substrate pretreatment technologies, enzymatic hydrolysis of lignocellulosics, carbohydrate fermentation into cellulosic ethanol and other products, and development of lignin-based high-added value co-products.
He has authored or co-authored more than 50 scientific publications and invention patents. Dr. Berlin has extensive international industrial experience in business development for the Eastern European, South and North American biotech markets (bio-ethanol, food, and enzyme technologies).

Rushton is a chemical engineer and business executive with more than 25 years of experience in the development and commercialization of technology. Mr. Rushton started his career in the oil industry and has subsequently been involved in the supply of technology to the pulp and paper, metal smelting and chemical process industries.
Most recently, Mr. Rushton has been involved with emerging technology in the alternative energy sector where he was President and CEO of Membrane Reactor Technologies Ltd.

Ray graduated from UBC with a BSc (Food Science) in 1975. He has worked as a microbiology lab technician at Provincial Health Laboratory before joining BC Provincial Dairy and Food Laboratory, where he supervised staff testing raw and finished dairy products.
In 1988, the provincial government privatized the Dairy Testing Laboratory. Ray and associates purchased the laboratory and in 1989, JR Laboratories Inc. was formed. Ray is a major shareholder and Laboratory Director, while his partner, Jimmy Chang, is the President. JR Laboratories Inc. continues to be the only BC government designated and certified lab for dairy and food analysis.
